HAMSTRING STRETCH TIPS

I like stretching the hamstrings lying on my back because it brings the focus solely on the leg, avoiding rounding the back. Make sure your back and your head stay on the floor and try to relax and breathe slow, regular breaths. If you don’t relax, your nervous system won’t relax either and that will make stretching really hard.

Let’s have a look at the different options:⏬

1. This is how I like to stretch my hamstrings, because I can relax while getting a really good stretch. But I understand that it’s not an option that suits everyone.

2. If you can lift your leg up to at least 90*, hold on to it with your hands. If you keep the other leg bent, it will be easier to focus on the hamstrings.

3. If your leg doesn’t lift to 90* angle, then use a strap, or a towel (or anything not stretchy) to help you hold your leg so that you can relax.

4. Keep your knee slightly bent if you need to. If your hamstrings are really tight, you’ll still feel the stretch but it won’t be as hard to hold your leg.
